Voting machine transparency costs one county clerk

I saw this article on digg and decided to do my part to help bring attention to it. Check it out…

Voting machine transparency costs one county clerk by ZDNet’s Phil Windley — Emery County, in Eastern Utah isn’t a very big place, at least by population–there are only around 10,500 people. So you wouldn’t expect Emery County to be a hotbed of voting activism, but one person, the County Clerk, has taken a courageous stand that has landed him in some hot water. How do you feel…

Here is an older article about Diebold.

Race…. in the space I mark human

This is NOT about political correctness. This is about people with narrow minds.

I was reading on a local bulletin board about a situation where three teenage girls were at a mall and someone of “another race and probablly 5-10 years older than the girls” drove up to them in a car. I questioned why race mattered in the description. A response that I recieved indicated that “it likely dispells the theory that the person was related to any of the girls.”

That is crap. The thought of two people falling in love that do not have the same ethnic background shouldn’t be a shocking thought. It isn’t in my reality. Honestly in today’s world where step-siblings and parents are the norm, why would you assume that if someone is Asian-American that they couldn’t be related to an African-American or an Arab-American?

I am beyond mad for being accussed of trying to be politically correct in this situation. Truth be told I never even thought about that. I thought about my friends that have kids who have parents from two different races being looked at suspiciously. Then I thought about my friend who adopted a child with a different ethnic background being assumed guilty because he looked different. Then I thought about my co-workers with children that have a different skin color from them. It isn’t about being politically correct. It is about stepping outside of the damn bubble you live in and realizing people with different color skin can be friends and even be related to each other. Damn, I did not want to start my morning off like this…

Feedburner perks

Since the re-emergence of the Yippie Show site a few days ago, I have been looking again at Feedburner and the services they offer. Basically when I first set up my podcast, I signed up with them and never looked back. Feedburner has a ton of services that I had no clue they had. If you haven’t looked at them lately you may want to take a second look.

3.17 Gillmor Gang thought

This list comes from a quick brain storm on the last Gillmor Gang I listened to…

Let’s Look at history a little bit. What are the times at which people pool thier resources together?

The Unions, co-ops, credit unions, wars, building the pyramids

Now, they were talking about the open source movement and user owned/available data, but seems kind of sad that there aren’t many, many more examples. The other one I thought of is natural disasters, but those pooled resources tend to forget very quickly the trouble they were facing.

dissenting

I received this at the end of an email from a friend of mine. It has really gotten me thinking. (Yes, moreso than usual.)

Caution: e-mail to or from political dissenters is tracked by the US Government. A pattern of communications linking yourself into the inner circles of free thinkers may be deemed subversive behavior, resulting in telecommunications intercepts, inspections of mails and packages sent or received, tracking of movements and meetings, and the network capture of e-communications, or any of them.

Warrantless Sneak-And-Peek invasions into homes and offices are routinely exercised. The disappearance of papers, files, equipment, and the operatives themselves may occur without notice. Imprisonment under such capture guidelines requires complete anonymity and the full loss of all civil liberties, rights and freedoms, including those of Habeas Corpus, legal counsel and due process of law. The Rendition of subjects into secret holding stations to states abroad notorious in their lack of human rights, yielding to torture and high rates of mortality is the final consequence.

To immediately absolve yourself from dire straits, reply in this form without hesitation:  “I did not ask to receive this communication, nor did I read or understand it.”

Quick post something

The blog is back up. All of the old posts are gone. Looks like I will have something to mess around with this weekend.
