One mistake I seem to make over and over again is thinking that if I know about something, a lot of other people in my circles know about it too. I could be talking about the technology front, politics, world affairs, alternative energy options, natural medicine or holistic forms of healing, but at the moment I am not.
Right now I want to bring some attention to a great web tool that has allowed me to free up some of my time by using it. I am referring to Google Reader. It scans my favorite websites for updates and puts those updates in one location for me to see. I am able to consume so much more information and news than I was before. One feature that I enjoy is the share option. If there is something I find particularly compelling I can share it with others with one click. Those items are there for anyone to check out. I even have that feed on my main blog page.
I know a lot of technology-bent people use Google Reader but I think the real power of the app will come through when people outside of the that space begin to use it and share items they find interesting. If you are using Reader let me know so I can subscribe to your shared items.
If you aren’t using it what are you waiting for?

This it too funny. Catch it before it gets pulled down.
Well I did drive up to Ann Arbor. What a beautiful day for a drive too. Got there, found a place to park and started the trek to the box office feeling hopeful. I waded through the masses of people and found the will call section. Unfortunately when I got to the window I was told they had no more tickets. They had 8 earlier this morning but I was too late. I did find someone scalping tickets as I was leaving. But I just couldn’t justify spending $80 that I don’t really have. So I bummed around Ann Arbor for the morning then headed home.
I kind of got an odd feeling when I was wading through the people to get to my destination. Kind of like all of these people are coming to see one man speak about stuff deep down we already know about. Stuff that has been written about for ages. It seems a more effective use of our time would be to talk in small groups about what small actions we can individually and locally take to actualize the changes we wish to occur. I also got the sense that maybe I was going for another spiritual hit/high instead of actually doing something. All in all an interesting day so far.
Some observations…
I don’t know if there is any connection to these things but it strikes me that there should be some spiritual significance. Two of the worlds highest spiritual leaders in the same country during an ancient holy week.
Right now I am thinking I should drive up to Ann Arbor to see if I can get in to hear the Dalai Lama today…
I don’t get sick. That has been a personal mantra I have repeated for years. For the most part is has been true. I might have an occasional cold but never anything a few cold pills wouldn’t wipe out. The last time I can remember being truly out-of-commission ill was about 20 years ago when I had the chicken pox. It would be an understatement to say being a 14 year old boy, in June, with the pox wasn’t much fun. It hurt to move. It hurt to not move. But I think we have all been through that or something similar. Although most people are much younger. Thankfully I won’t have that again.
However, last week I came down with a fever. It wasn’t too bad the first day. The next day however things got a little more rough. I notice my body was kind of achy. But even then I knew I could push through it, after all I don’t get sick. Day three was Friday, I think, and that was the day I figured I shouldn’t go in to work. Good thing I didn’t. The fever got much worse. Body shivers made it nearly impossible to pour water into a cup and actually get the water into it instead of the floor. I knew though with Friday and the weekend I would be 100% by Monday. (Although I was hoping for sooner.)
I made it into work Monday but getting ready took about twice as long as normal and I was exhausted by the time I was dressed. I thought I could do my usual “push through it” and then I would feel better. I did push through it. I didn’t feel better though. Yesterday I ended up going to the doctor. He diagnosed me with both Mononucleosis and Pleurisy. They are supposed to get the lab work and x-rays back today to know for sure. He told me to not go in to work until Monday. Although if I was feeling better it would be alright. Ugh… I am going to go stir crazy. I can not lay around and do nothing. But then again, I don’t have the energy to do much of anything either.
I guess… once every couple of decades… I do get sick.
Last year I got a Senseo coffee maker at no charge other than about a $15 shipping fee. I love this machine. A single cup of coffee in about 60 seconds whenever I want it. Perfect for my bachelor life. The only trouble was that I found myself drinking a lot more coffee.
Now I have found another free coffee testing program through Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Company. Their beta testing program is open to coffee loving bloggers. Of course I have to be chosen to be a tester first. But I thought I would pass the information along. I know there are at least a couple of coffee drinkers that check out this site. Enjoy.
On a tea related note… Over the holiday season I learned about PG Tips brand tea through Adam Curry & John C Dvorak’s podcast No Agenda. I am in love with this tea!! I haven’t been able to find the special blend that John mentioned yet but hopefully I will. Now if someone could help me find a green tea that is just as beautiful…
So, what is your favorite coffee or tea? Feel free to send me some if you are so inclined. ![]()
I just saw this on TechCrunch. The high def trailer for the new Indiana Jones movie is available in Yahoo’s movie section. I can hardly wait for May 22!
